Welcome to Sport South Canterbury
journey image.JPGIn 2008, the Sea 2 Sea Challenge will celebrate its 5th successful year of being the largest physical activity challenge across the Canterbury West Coast Region
Being physical active is one of the most important things a person can do for good health and well being at home and at work.
The Sea 2 Sea Challenge will start Monday September 29 and finish on Push Play Day (Friday November 7). It involves employees being physical active with work mates, family and friends to complete the virtual distance of 240km from Sea 2 Sea in six weeks. Just 30mins a day is all it takes. 30mins = 3km … It is easy!!
By participating employees will have the opportunity to be entered into a draw for prizes for both their workplace and themselves.
We would like to invite your workplace to be involved in the 2008
The Sea 2 Sea Challenge is an ideal tool to encourage employees to be more physically active and there are many great benefits to workplaces for motivating employees to be physically active. The benefits include:
• Increased productivity & morale
• Reduce stress levels
• Improved employee health & fitness
• Better employee relations
• Improved job satisfaction & team spirit
• Reduced employee absenteeism
To be involved, all you have to do is:
• Find a motivated employee who will be the workplace coordinator. They are the ‘go to guy or girl’ in your workplace.
• Forward your workplace’s registration form to the Sea 2 Sea Co-ordinator at Sport Canterbury by Friday 26 September
• Lee Anne from Sport South Canterbury will contact the workplace coordinator and a registration pack will be given out to the workplace coordinator. These include information on events specially organised for Sea 2 Sea Challenge participating workplaces and useful ideas on how to be active at work. Contact Lee-anne on:

Volunteers needed to become Stay On Your Feet Trainers Are you interested in helping elderly people retain their independence?
Falls and injuries among older people are of increasing concern to the individuals and their families. There are many factors for falls. One of the major ones is that older people reduce physical activity and lose their strength and balance.
Sport South Canterbury will be introducing a new programme in South Canterbury called ‘Stay On Your Feet’. For those who have had a fall, Stay On Your Feet will provide a home-based exercise programme that has been extensively trialed and shown to reduce falls by up to 35%.
We will be launching the programme in the next July / August and are seeking volunteers for the programme. Training is provided mid-late July Volunteers need to be enthusiastic and have an empathy for older persons health.
